PORSCHE 918

Officially it’s only a concept, but there’s no doubt that project XG10 -- or the 918 Spyder concept -- will pave the way for the next Porsche supercar. And what a supercar it is going to be: in addition to the normally aspirated, high-revving, 3.4-liter V-8 good for more than 495 hp, the striking 918 Spyder has three electric motors onboard that add another 215 hp to the tally. Says Wolfgang Dürheimer, board member in charge of R&D: “This car can lap the Nürburgring faster than the Carrera GT. At the same time, it averages 78 mpg [on the EU driving cycle] when driven gently. Are we going to build it? We will definitely bring some blank sales contracts to the Geneva show, but it’s too early to talk pricing, production volumes, and timing.

The strategic aim is to demonstrate that even a supercar can be environmentally friendly. XG10 promises total driving pleasure—and a clear conscience. This is a trendsetting and sustainable premium product that uses the issue of social acceptability to its advantage. And it reflects the legacy of Ferry Porsche, who was convinced that sports cars would never go out of fashion.

PORSCHE CARRERA GT

Equipped with a V10 engine that produces more than 600 horsepower and with the most advanced, cutting-edge automotive technologies, the 2004 Porsche Carrera GT uses the undiluted qualities of a genuine racecar to provide an unprecedented driving experience on the road.  Among the car’s unique features are its 5.7-liter, 605-horsepower (SAE) V10 engine; its monocoque chassis with engine and transmission mounts made of carbon-reinforced plastic (Porsche has registered for a patent on this design principle which uses aerospace materials); and the first use of a ceramic composite clutch in a production car. Its aerodynamic and race-bred suspension package provides safe and stable travel at speeds of up to 205 mph (330 km/h), and the Carrera GT features a lot of lightweight materials, such as magnesium for the car’s huge wheels and special sport seats. The result of such artistic and athletic equipment is a car that accelerates from a standing start to 62 mph (100 km/h) in only 3.9 seconds, reaches 100 mph (160 km/h) in less than seven seconds, 125 mph (200 km/h) in less than 10 seconds, and can achieve a top test-track speed of 205 mph (330 km/h). The Porsche Carrera GT made its stunning yet fitting debut as a prototype car at the famed Louvre art museum in Paris in the fall of 2000. After undergoing development and testing, the final production version was unveiled at the 2003 Geneva show. The Porsche Carrera GT will be built at Porsche’s new plant in Leipzig, Germany, with deliveries beginning late in the 2003 calendar year.
The Porsche Carrera GT design clearly indicates its athletic abilities. Yet contrary to prototypes used only in motorsports, the Carrera GT’s design and character shows clear links to Porsche’s production cars. From the front, the Carrera GT bears the typical Porsche face, with an extreme, swept-back “arrow” design of the front lid with wings rising up at the sides much like the 718 RSK Spyder of the 1960s. As on the awesome Porsche 917 racecars, flat glass covers a pair of large projection headlights that feature the most advanced and sophisticated headlight technology available with V-shaped Xenon headlamp units. Just as on the Porsche 911 Turbo, three extra-wide air intakes in the lower front fascia underscore the Carrera GT’s clear commitment to outstanding performance by providing air to cool a trio of front-mounted radiators, as well as the ceramic front brakes.

PORSCHE BOXSTER

Performance meets legendary pedigree and style in the 2011 Porsche Boxster.

The 2011 Boxster is the entry level model in Porsche’s lineup, but don’t let that designation fool you – there is nothing ordinary about this car.  The Boxster is available in three variations: Boxster, Boxster S, and the new for 2011 Boxster Spyder.  Each variety of Boxster gets a unique engine and different levels of interior features.

PORSCHE 911 TURBO

Like the Volkswagen Beetle, another iconic car always looming at the back of my head is the Porsche 911. When it was announced in 2007, that Porsche are coming down to India, I thought that they would really be setting up a factory here and would be giving out all those cars at a Mercedes E-class or BMW 5 series price. I was only half right. The starting price of the only one or two car would be similar to the aforementioned cars. The rest all are stratospherically priced for their lack of utility. But then who would mention sports car and utility in the same breath. These cars are meant to be enjoyed and not used as work horses. Cut to the chase, the bottom line is that I wanted to have a go at at the Porsche 911 Turbo in India and my boss was all the more happy to provide that to me.

PORSCHE CAYMAN

Porsche Cayman is a car based on the Boxster model of the company. This two-seater coupe has an exquisitely beautiful design and delivers performance similar to a racer car. The car is known for stylish looks, spacious interiors, good economy and mileage. This car was launched in 2006 and has become quite popular particularly among the affluent class in India.
Porsche Cayman Specification

The Porsche Cayman review indicates that the car is equipped with 2.7L 6-cylinder engine and this can deliver power of 245 bhp at 6500 rpm along with torque of 273 Nm at 4600 to 6000 rpm. The other engine option includes 3.4L, 6-cylinder engine and this can deliver power of 295 bhp at 6250 rpm along with torque of 340 Nm at 4400 to 6000 rpm.

PORSCHE PANAMERA

If there is one thing Porsche isn't afraid of, it's providing an abundance of choice. There are 20 different 911 variations alone, while every Porsche can be had with hundreds of options. The 2012 Porsche Panamera adds to its own automotive horn o'plenty with a pair of new models, the fuel economy-oriented Panamera S Hybrid and the range-topping Turbo S.

The S Hybrid, as the name suggests, features a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. Co-developed with parent company Volkswagen, this powertrain utilizes an electric motor sandwiched between an Audi-sourced supercharged V6 and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The result is a combined output of 375 hp and 427 pound-feet of torque, or about the same output as the V8-powered Panamera S.

PORSCHE 911

Porsche are known for their unique designs that have become an identifying feature of their cars. The Porsche 911 Turbo is no exception to this fact. The head lights are of a circular design and resemble the one's sported by the VW Beetle. The bonnet is long and smooth design with big air dams at the front.

The Porsche 911 Turbo sits on 19'' Pzero wheels that give the car a sporty look. The wing mirrors are also quite aerodynamic, which help to decrease drag. The doors of this car features slits towards their ends, which points to the car's rear place engine. This car's rear is a very compact and it also features a big diffuser spoiler. The tail lights are shaped in a curve, while the rear also features two tail pipes that again show the car's sporty appeal.

PORSCHE 944

Talk to the Porsche purists out there, and you'll soon be told that any car bearing the Zuffenhausen badge without its engine hanging out the back is not the real thing. A front-engined Porsche, they will say, is an aberration.

Well, let the purists have their opinion, because it means that front-engined Porsches are cheaper than they should be on the second-hand market.

The average front-engined Porsche is also a more benign thing to drive than a rear-engined one, thanks to better weight distribution.
